Awards Season Predictions

I care about stuff. I don't care about everything and I don't always care enough, but I care. As much as it shames me to admit it, I care just a little about big media awards shows. Maybe care is too strong a word. Maybe I'm curious. Anyway, here are my predictions for the two big ones coming up... Oh, and the Colts by 17.

The Oscars

Best Picture - The Queen

Best Actor - Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), although if the academy is as senile and sentimental with their choice of actors as they have been in the past then Will Smith will win for The Pursuit of Happyness

Best Actess - Helen Mirren (The Queen), though Penelope Cruz (Volver) could pull a saucy little upset.

Best Supporting Actor - Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls) will get snubbed for Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine) as an old man in a quirky film that ought to at least win something.

Best Supporting Actess - Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls)

Best Director - Clint Eastwood (Letters From Iwo Jima) I didn't see any of these movies so this is a wild guess. I could also go with Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel).

Best Original Song - something from Dreamgirls

Best Original Screenplay - Little Miss Sunshine

Best Screenplay Adaptation - Children of Men

Everyone will sleep through the rest of the awards so why bother.

The Grammys

Record of the Year - Crazy Gnarls Barkley

Album of the Year - Continuum John Mayer by accident...

Song of the Year - Be Without You Mary J. Blige

Best New Artist - Carrie Underwood

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - Ain't No Other Man Christina Aguilera

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance - Waiting On The World To Change John Mayer

Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group - Over My Head (Cable Car) The Fray other nominees cancel each other out leaving this dreck...

Best Pop Collaboration - Promiscuous Nelly Furtado & Timbaland

Best Pop Vocal Album - Back To Basics Christina Aguilera

Best Dance Recording - Sexy Back Justin Timberlake

Best Electronic/Dance Album - Supernature Goldfrapp

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album - Duets: An American Classic Tony Bennett

Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance - Someday Baby Bob Dylan

Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group - The Saints Are Coming U2 & Green Day

Best Hard Rock Performance - Woman Wolfmother

Best Metal Performance - 30/30-150 Stone Sour I don't know who these guys are or what they sound like but my guess is that the voting members don't either so they asked their 14 year old nephews and this is their choice...

Best Rock Song - Dani California Red Hot Chili Peppers

Best Rock Album - Stadium Arcadium Red Hot Chili Peppers

Best Alternative Album - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Arctic Monkeys

Best Rap Album - The Roots deserve this one but I pick T.I. King

Best Musical Album for Children - Catch That Train! Dan Zanes And Friends

Look for the R&B / Hip Hop catagories to be sharred by Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige or T.I. and John Legend. I will also predict a suprise upset victory for the Dixie Chicks in the Country catagory for Not Ready to Make Nice.
